Andronicus II Palaeologus, with Michael IX, 1282-1328. Basilikon (Silver, 22 mm, 2.04 g, 5 h), Constantinopolis. Christ, nimbate, seated facing on square-backed throne, wearing tunic and pallium, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left; in fields to left and right, IC - XC. Rev. Bust of Christ facing, nimbate, flanked by IC - XC, placing his hands gently on the heads of Andronicus II, kneeling facing on the left, raising his right hand in blessing and of Michael IX, kneeling facing on the right; both holding cross between them. SB 2398. Of the highest rarity, one of only two known examples. Areas of weakness and with some scratches, otherwise, very fine.
